It holds a volume of 30ml of ink and has a diameter of 54mm or two inches and the overall height is 68mm.
Made out of Flawless cobalt blue glass with FIRE POLISHED stopper made by Brosse of Boulevard Bourdon in Paris, who are indisputably makers of the highest quality glass bottles.
This means that the glass has no flaws, bubbles or faults. Colours appear more even because of the way the glass is distributed in the finished piece.
There is as much labour involved in producing a perfect ground stopper as there is in producing the “flacon” (the bottle) itself and the manufacturer's cost of producing the bottle is the same as the cost of the stopper.
The stoppers are made in steel moulds. All glass moulds leave a part-line (a “flash-line”) on the side and in the case of our stoppers this has been removed by “fire-polishing” whereby the stoppers are mounted onto an iron frame that holds them in place while flames melt away the traces of the part line. This means that the stoppers fit snugky into the neck of the inkwell.
It is claimed that Only Brosse ground stoppers form an air-tight seal which is re-inforced by an invisible polythene sealing ring which means that even in a pressurised aircraft cargo-hold the seal will be tight. However don't hold us to this - normal handling should ensure there is no leaks.
